Norwegian Jewel Cruise Ship

Cruise ship from the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). This cruise ship holds about 3000 passengers + 1100 crew.

The rooms with a balcony are really great for travelling with kids (especially a one-year-old), as they give you a nice view of the ocean. There is daily cleaning of the rooms (twice per day). Norwegian Cruise Line has a "freestyle cruising" concept that is really nice in that you can eat pretty much whenever you want. But, if you do want to eat at one of the specialty restaurants, you should make you reservations right when you arrive on the cruise ship, because they fill up extremely quickly. The burgers by the pool are very good, but the best ones are from the garden cafe at the very back of the cruise ship (aft). During lunch, you can ask the guy to make you a burger, and he will cook it especially for you. If you want to get a chair by the pool, many people wake up early and reserve their spots by tying on a towel or two and leaving their sandals. Then, they go to breakfast, and are sure to have a poolside (or 13th floor deck side) spot waiting for them. As the cruise ship is leaving the first port, I recommend going poolside, and enjoying the band (steel drums) with dancing. The dance room "Spinnaker Lounge" is fun at night, but most people dont seem to realize that its equally nice place to lounge during the day. They have very comfortable sofas looking out the windows at the front of the ship. The view is great, but beware of bingo day!

On NCL Jewel cruise ship, the 7th floor "Promenade", or outside walking area, is very nice. Its about 600 meters (yards) around the circle, so 2 laps is approximately a kilometer. The walking track has a great view from the back of the cruise ship, and the starboard (right) side has shuffle board. There is an ice cream machine in the garden cafe that is open 24 hours a day, and you always see people walking around with ice cream. Trick - put the chocolate sauce on the bottom, then the ice cream, then sprinkles or nuts on top. Deluxe! It seems that lots of people get lost on the cruise ship, but it is helpful to notice that the carpets have little fish, and all of the fish are swimming toward the front of the cruise ship.
